FARfetched

As the week lurches to a close, it seems that swine flu may indeed become a pandemic — but "pandemic" only refers to the spread of the disease. There's a pretty good chance that it will end up being no worse, in mortality terms, than any of the seasonal flu viruses that go around every year.

In a way, it's already turning into a joke. Daughter Dearest has had a really bad chest cold, and when she coughed in an exam last week, a bunch of people turned to look at her. "Pre-existing!" she said, and they all went back to the test at hand. She's wrapped up her first year of college now. God I'm so proud of her, fighting mono in the first semester and now this, and coming out with decent grades. But anyway.

A little vigilance goes a long way with a pandemic. Watch for reports about it landing in your locale, then watch a little more carefully. With the "media" breathlessly waiting to report on the next disaster, whatever that may be, you'll know pretty quick if the virus mutates to something really ugly. But the precautions you take are the same, regardless of the virulence. Work at home when and if you can, it saves energy too…

dale, I read the link you posted and have to say that the guy is probably spot on with all ten predictions.

Could dale be a closet Doomer?
Only his hairdresser knows for sure.

Antiviral drugs may be useful in early stages of some virus infections or to prevent recurrences or reactivation in chronic infections. http://www.8pills.com/
